And….drum roll…today we have EXECUTIVE DUNGAREES for you courtesy of the very clever Andrew!  I should point out that this is not Andrew. This is Joe. Hi Joe!!

THIS is Andrew (on the right) who decided that while he was adamant he wanted to make executive dungarees, he didn’t think he could rock the look himself (I beg to differ) and so instead Joe is the lucky recipient of Andrew’s skill and creativity…

 

I think Joe has done a sterling job in showing these off. Good job chap 😉

I really like the idea of turning a formal garment into something utilitarian. And there are some great details in this make. A couple of my favourites are the welt pocket on the front bib and the side button plackets…

I’m so glad we got one of these! Heather Lou’s take on the challenge is testament to the fact that you don’t need to completely dismantle a suit to transform it into something new…if the guts of it are good….work with it!

Simple changes can transform just as much as complete reconstructions and this longline sleeveless jacket/waistcoat/vest (Think I covered all linguistic bases there) is bang on trend and a great transitional piece…

Of course what appears to be simplistic on the surface often belies the techniques behind it…

Today we have the inimitable Rachel sharing some refashion inspo with you. And this dress posing as a skirt and jacket combo doesn’t disappoint…

The gorgeous fit belies the fact that this suit was once too small and is derived from some really clever inserts and interesting seaming details on the jacket especially…

And a shawl collar is distinctly more feminine and can be worn up or rolled back to vary the look…

In a slight change to the publicised line up, (due to unforseen circumstances Ute has had to reluctantly step down through no fault of her own)  instead I have a little unexpected inspo courtesy of Toya. (Thanks for stepping into the breach lady!) This is one of the first entries into the community challenge element of the series and I was absolutely blown away by the ingenuity and quality of this make and I think you will be too!

As if this moto jacket (with purple velvet lapels people!) and pencil skirt combo weren’t cool enough…Then there’s this too!!

Squeezing all of this out of one suit and all the limitation inherent in that is nothing short of brilliant. And what’s more they are all supremely wearable pieces together or in combination with other garments. So it’s win win all the way.

When I first set this challenge I anticipated lots of neutrals. As tends to be the nature with men’s suits in particular. Grey, navy, black. That kinda thing.  I hadn’t factored in ladies suiting  (so clear was I in my minds eye that it would all be men’s suits) which of course (duh) will come in a vastly extended range of colours. I love the surprises this challenge throws up….and this GORGEOURS coral red number from Beth is “da bomb”!

On first inspection a classic fitted shift. Princess seamed bodice and pencil skirt. (BTW, princess seams are your friend with this challenge. Narrower pattern pieces ya see!)But no!! This dress is ALL about the party in the back! Using the original rouleau scallop detail to great effect. Absolutely inspired. And another “you would never know” refashion…

Suiting goes Femme with a capital F!! Today’s inspo  from Emily couldn’t be much more feminine, classy and fit for a cocktail (or three)…

More pattern tetris going on with this make. From the front you wouldn’t even know this was made from a suit…

Even from the back the only indicator of the origins of this garment is that cheeky welt pocket…

When it comes to refashioning there are tweaks and there are transformations. I think this one is firmly in the latter camp!

This is a hard challenge. Easily the most challenging we’ve tackled to date.  So if you’re struggling, take heart. You’re not the only one! This one has alot of us scratching our heads. (Me included btw.) And the lovely Elisalex is no exception. But she’s still come out smiling…

And wilth a killer skirt to show for it!

My absolute favourite details on this make have got to be the fab seaming on this pattern and the inspired use of the trouser fasteners on the waist…While Elisalex may have conceded defeat (for now 😉 ) on refashioning the jacket part of her suit, this is still cracking inspo in terms of how  the trousers part can be used and original details incorporated.

Featuring an on point pussy bow neckline…

By retaining many of the original features (like welt and breast pockets and button cuffs) but adding new features like chunky snaps and contrast hem and cuff bands…

….this old suit jacket takes on a completely different character and style. Awesome job Estelle!!!
